The Aluva Magistrate Court recently ordered an investigation into the complaint filed by YouTuber Unnikrishnan. who runs the popular movie review channel 'Unni's Vlog Cinephile', against a movie director for alleged caste abuse.
The complainant alleges that after he reviewed the movie "Raasta", its director Anish Anwar called him and hurled casteist abuses at him and issued threats.
The petitioner approached the police station to make a complaint on the 6th of January at Elamakkara, and it was on 22nd of January when the petitioner realized the complaint was not registered.
As such, the petitioner sent a complaint to the Elamakkara Police Station House Officer and Ernakulam City Police Commissioner on 22nd January through registered post. Due to no response from their side, the complainant filed a private complaint before the Magistrate alleging offences under Sections 294(b) (obscenity) and 506(2) (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 3(r)(u)(zc) and 3(2)(va) (punishment for offences, atrocities) of the SC ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.
The petitioner had prayed for the court to direct the police authorities to investigate the matter under 156(3)(police's power to investigate) CrPC.
