Advocate Shadan Farasat has been appointed as Additional Advocate General (AAG) for representing the State of Punjab before the Supreme Court of India.

The letter for engagement as AAG has been issued on January 30 by Punjab Government’s Department of Home Affairs and Justice.

“You are hereby engaged as Additional Advocate General in the Office of Advocate General, Punjab at Legal Cell. New Delhi. with immediate effect. for defending the cases for and on behalf of State of Punjab in the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India,” the letter states.

It adds that appointment for the post of AAG would be on a contractual basis for a period of one year.

“You will work under the overall supervision and control of the Advocate General. Punjab and will be bound by the provisions of the Punjab Law Officers (Engagement) Act. 2017,” the letter adds.

Shadan completed his B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) in May 2006 from National Law School of India (NLSIU), Bangalore. He also received “R Reddy Gold Medal” for the best student.

He has done LLM from Harvard Law School in June 2009.

In 2013, Shadan became Advocate on Record in Supreme Court. He was later appointed as panel counsel for Competition Commission of India in 2015. In 2018, he was appointed as Additional Standing Counsel (Civil) for Delhi Government in Delhi High Court.

Shadan has argued matters before Supreme Court’s Constitution Bench in EWS quota case, Gautam Navlakha case, Facebook v. Delhi Legislative Assembly case and many other matters relating to both private law and public law. He also regularly appears in arbitration cases before Delhi High Court.
