Senior Advocate K Shashi Kiran Shetty has been appointed as the new Advocate General of Karnataka.
An alumnus of National Law school of India University, he is the son of former Lokayukta Justice Vishwanath Shetty, having over 23 years of experience in handling matters before various courts across the country.
The key areas of his practice are Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, Arbitration Law, Property Rights, Family Law, Debt Recovery, Environmental Laws and Banking Laws, among others.
Shetty has represented businessman N.R. Narayana Murthy in N.R. Narayana Murthy v. Karnataka Rakshana Vakeclara Vedike reported in AIR 2007 Kar 174 before the High Court of Karnataka and the Supreme Court challenging the summons issued to Murthy who was alleged to have violated Section 3 of the Prevention of Insult to National Honor Act, 1971.
He has also represented Alstom (Switzerland) Limited in a Rs. 2215 Cr. Tender matter floated by Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL). He has represented independent MLAs in the disqualification of 16 Karnataka MLA Case and he had appeared on behalf of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee and now Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Recently he has appeared in the Supreme Court on behalf of petitioner Gulam Rassol in the case Gulam Rasool vs State of Karnataka which is the matter pertaining to the 4% Muslim reservation in Karnataka.
