Advocate Billwadal Bhattacharyya has been removed from the post of Deputy Solicitor General of India, for the Calcutta High Court.

The notification dated 16th February 2024 reads: The President is pleased to discontinue the term of Shri Billwadal Bhattacharyya, Deputy Solicitor General of India for High Court of Calcutta (PB) at Kolkata, with immediate effect. The name of Shri Billwadal Bhattacharyya, Advocate occurring in this Department's Order No. J-11014/5/2020-Judicial dated 13.01.2022 stands omitted.

Bhattacharya was appointed as DSG in 2022 and was due to serve a term till 2025.

He would regularly appear before the principal bench of the Calcutta High Court representing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in various litigations.

Most notably, Bhattacharya was representing the CBI in the ongoing cash-for-jobs recruitment scam matter being heard by a single bench of Justice Amrita Sinha.
