NEET 2018-A Special Leave Petition has been filed before the Supreme Court challenging this order and the Bench headed by Chief Justice is likely to hear the matter today.
The Gujarat High Court, on 27 February, refused to grant interim relief on a Petition demanding exemption for students from submitting Aadhaar number while appearing for Joint Entrance Examination (Main Unit), 2018 (JEE) and National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Unit, 2018 (NEET).
The order was passed by a Bench comprising Chief Justice R. Subhash Reddy and Justice Vipul M. Pancholi on a Petition filed by one Abidali Yusufbhai Patel. The matter has now been listed on 28 March.
A Special Leave Petition has been filed before the Supreme Court challenging this order and the Bench headed by Chief Justice is likely to hear the matter today.
During the hearing, the Court noted that a similar condition was imposed on students appearing for NEET-2017. Further, it was informed that JEE had already been conducted and that students had duly submitted either their Aadhaar cards or receipts of proof of Aadhaar applications.
It then refused to pass any orders at the moment, noting that the issue of linking Aadhaar to various schemes is currently pending before the Supreme Court, which was supposed to hear it on 6 March, i.e. Tuesday.
