NALSAR holds 11th Annual Convocation; CJI P Sathasivam delivers Convocation Address
The National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR), Hyderabad held its eleventh annual convocation on Saturday. Chief Justice of India, Justice P Sathasivam delivered the convocation address.
The degrees were conferred by Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta, Chancellor of NALSAR and Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. More than 700 students received various degrees including PhD, LL.M. and B.A. LL.B. (Honours).
Jagdish John Menezes and Poorvi Satija bagged 10 medals each in several subjects and Mayank Kapila got the Nani A Palkhivala Memorial Gold Medal for topping in Comparative Constitutional Law. Kapila also topped the LL.M. course. Ridhika Kabra bagged seven gold medals while Arushi Garg and Swati Singh got three medals each. More than 43 gold medals were awarded to graduating students.
While 200 students received their degrees in person, more than 500 students received their degrees in absentia.
Delivering the convocation address, Justice Sathasivam told the students, "Never allow any decision of yours at any point of time to be swayed by the factor of money and fear. Legal education is not just a tool of professional success but the social value of legal education includes personal empowerment as well as the ability to contribute to social welfare."
He cautioned that the duty of law colleges does not end with producing clever graduates but honest men who can be trusted in public and private life, men who are sensitive to wrongs, the sufferings and injustices of the society. He advised them not to see the law as a means of livelihood but as a licence to help others to resolve their disputes.
At the event, Vice-Chancellor, Faizan Mustafa presented a 22 page report on the achievements of the University.
