The Madhya Pradesh High Court has directed the state government to disburse within six weeks the compensation amount to a woman who lost four of her family members in the 1984 riots.
A 75-year-old Harjinder Kaur @ Gurmeet Kaur filed a petition after the respondents, despite her requests, did not release the amount of Rs. 20 lakh sanctioned by the government as compensation for four members of her family lost their life in the 1984 riots.
The government issued the order to pay compensation to the petitioner on 18.03.2016.
The court, on going through the records, found the order was passed in favour of petitioner on 18.03.2016, but on 07.12.2016, the District Magistrate, Raisen, has communicated to the Secretary of MP State that the aforesaid order cannot be implemented on account of paucity of funds.
Justice Subodh Abhyankar said: “In spite of obtaining opportunities to seek instructions, no reply has been filed by the respondents.”
The court disposed of the petition with direction to the respondents to disburse the compensation amount within a period of six weeks.
