The Madhya Pradesh High Court has upheld the death sentence to two persons and lifer to one person for kidnapping and murdering a 15-year-old boy after his family did not paid the ransom of Rs. 50 lakh.

Appellants Rajesh alias Rakesh and Raja Yadav were awarded death sentence, while Om Prakash was convicted to life imprisonment in the case.

The prosecution case is that on 26.3.2013, about 9 pm, victim Ajit Pal alias Bobby went to watch Holika event on Holi festival and did not return home.

Thereafter, the boy’s mother and few others went to the gurdwara at Gwarighat in search of Ajit, but he was untraced.

Thereupon, his mother lodged a complaint about the missing of her son on 27.3.2013, at the Gwarighat outpost of Police Station Gorakhpur, Jabalpur district.

The boy’s body was recovered from a gunny bag lying in a dry well on the basis of disclosure of the appellants.

They took the extreme step to kill the boy as his family did not paid the ransom amount demanded by them.

A division bench of Justice SK Seth and Justice HP Singh confirmed the death sentence awarded by the trial court to Rajesh and Raja Yadav and dismissed their criminal appeals with the observation that “there is no possibility of any reform and rehabilitation of the appellants”.

In addition, the court upheld the life imprisonment awarded to Om Prakash and dismissed his criminal appeal.
