A transgender, Yashini was allowed by the Madras High Court to participate in the viva voce subject to the subject to the outcome of the writ petition. Yashini had applied for the post of sub-inspector of police.

K Prathika Yashini , was allowed to go through the process of viva voce to be held between 5th September and 8th September. A bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice T S Sivagnanam directed the Tamil Nadu Uniform Services Recruitment Board to do the same.

The Supreme Court Judgment in NALSA was cited by Yashini which ordered that “The state and central governments should take steps to treat transgender as socially and educationally backward citizens and extend them all kinds of reservation in the admissions to educational institutions and public appointments.”

The authorities was directed by the bench in its interim order to allow her to appear for viva voce and said that the same shall be subject to the outcome of the writ petition filed by Yashini. The further hearing has been posted to November 3.
