The IDIA project was initiated with the purpose of securing admissions for interested students across the nation from marginalized and lower strata of the society into various national law schools of the country. These underprivileged students are selected for IDIA for training extending up to two years in few cases. Around May, all these students will appear for CLAT and AILET which determine the admissions to the various NLUs (National Law Universities). It is unfortunate that the law entrance conducting bodies have charged a hefty fee this time, while 4000 for CLAT, 3000 for AILET. Belonging to strained financial backgrounds, these trainees are faced with challenges to pay such a high application fee. This is undoubtedly an impediment to their dreams of accessing quality education. “We have over 35 Trainees who will be appearing for both these examinations, and need to raise around Rs. 2,50,000/- (Rupees Two Lakh Fifty Thousand) immediately to cover these application fees”, cites the IDIA blog.
Please see below for the profile of one of the Trainees, UshaBage, who will be appearing for the CLAT and AILET this year. Her profile is representative of the various IDIA Trainees who come from similar underprivileged backgrounds.
Usha Bage
UshaBage hails from Lalgutwa, a small village which is located in the outskirts of Ranchi. She belongs to a tribal family of five, comprising four sisters and her mother. She lost her father to illness at a young age. Her mother is the only bread-earner of the family, but constantly encourages her daughters to keep up with their studies. Usha has just completed her 12th Standard exams and is eagerly waiting the results. Before IDIA conducted a sensitization session at her school, she had no knowledge about law, law schools, or a career in law. The sensitization session has made her extremely keen to study law and build a career as a lawyer. Usha draws her inspiration from her mother, who works extremely hard to ensure that her daughters do not stop their studies despite the numerous obstacles they face.
Please show some kindness and magnanimity by contributing generously to enable IDIA Trainees to appear for these exams and live their dreams of a bright future by obtaining admissions in the most prestigious law schools of the nation.
