The Supreme Court collegium has reportedly asked the Government to put on hold the process for appointment of an Uttar Pradesh lawyer as an Allahabad High Court Judge.

The communication was sent by Chief Justice of India J.S. Khehar, after the collegium found that the lawyer was facing criminal charges.

As per reports, the collegium has recommended a total of 29 names, in two batches of 19 and 10, to the Government for appointment as Judges of the Allahabad High Court. While some of these candidates were from the Subordinate Judiciary, others represented the Bar.

Earlier this month, the collegium had recalled the recommendation for elevation of a Lucknow District Judge to the Allahabad High Court, after allegations of graft had surfaced through an Intelligence Bureau (IB) inquiry report.

The intervention had taken place on behest of Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court, Justice Dilip B. Bhosale, who acted on the IB report which had alleged that Judge O.P. Mishra had received large bribes to grant bail to former UP Minister Gayatri Prajapati.
