A seminal National Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its Legal Implications and Challenges recently convened, drawing together eminent experts from diverse spheres across India. Organized jointly by the esteemed bodies of the Law Commission of India, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Government of India), and Dr B.R. Ambedkar National Law University, Sonepat, the conference served as a pivotal platform for rigorous discourse on the intricacies surrounding the integration of AI into legal frameworks.

Gracing the occasion as Chief Guest and Patron-in-chief was the esteemed presence of  Bandaru Dattatraya, the distinguished Governor of Haryana and Chancellor of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Law University, Sonepat. Joining him was Guest of Honour, Arjun Ram Meghwal, the revered Union Minister of State (I/C) for Law and Justice, Parliamentary Affairs, and Culture, Government of India, alongside Guest of Honour, Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi, Chairperson Law Commission of India, Justice Rajesh Bindal, Judge Supreme Court of India. The session further welcomed other eminent jurists, including Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra Judge Supreme Court of India.


The invaluable insights of Prof. (Dr.) Archana Mishra, Vice Chancellor of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Law University, Sonepat, and Prof. (Dr.) Ashutosh, Conference Director and Dean of Academic Affairs, Dr . B.R. Ambedkar National Law University enriched the proceedings.

Technical Session 1, under the chairmanship of Justice S. Ravindra Bhat, Former Judge, of Supreme The Court of India scrutinized the delicate balance between innovation and transparency in AI integration, featuring erudite speakers such as(co-chair) Prof.(Dr.) Anand Paliwal, Member, Law Commission of India, Arvind Kumar Controller of Certifying Authority, Government of India, Devesh Tyagi CEO, National Internet Exchange of India(NIXI), Govt. of India, Dr G. R. Raghvendra, Former Registrar of Copyright and Former Jt. Secretary, Ministry of Law and Justice, Govt. of India, Rahul Goel, Partner Anant Law, and Dr Pavan Duggal, Founder of Pavan Duggal and Associates.


Technical Session 2, under the stewardship of Justice M.M. Kumar, Former Chairperson of NCLT and Former Chief Justice of J&K High Court examined the ethical considerations surrounding AI utilization. Esteemed speakers including (CO-Chair) Prof. D.P. Verma Member of the Law Commission of India, Rajiv Jain, Member NHRC, Govt. of India, Prof .G. S. Bajpai, Vice Chancellor, NLU Delhi, M. Vellaipandi, Director General, Standardisation Testing and Quality Certification Directorate, Govt. of India, Satinde Bhalla DDG(Telecom security and Policy Research)NTIPRIT, Govt. of India Rahul Chaddha, Managing Partner at Chadha and Co., underscored the imperative of aligning AI products with ethical standards within the prevailing legal framework.



Technical Session 3, led by Anu Monga was dedicated to capacitating Young professionals to comprehend and leverage AI within the legal sphere. Noteworthy panellists including  Saurabh Bindal Partner, FoxMandal and Associates, Saifur Rehman Faridi Partner Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & co., Prashant Varadarajan Regional Legal Counsel HP INC and Rohit Pandey Secretary, Supreme Court Bar Association. engaged in incisive deliberations on AI's role in contract formation and its implications for human rights.

The conference culminated with a valedictory session graced by distinguished luminaries, including Justice Vinod S. Bharadwaj, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court, and Justice Arun Monga, Judge, High Court of Rajasthan. This session provided a platform for reflective discourse on the ethical imperatives underpinning AI utilization and the need for a balanced approach to AI adoption.
