RGNUL Organizes 5th National Sports And Entertainment Law Mediation Competition [31stMarch-2ndApril, 2023]

5th RGNUL National Sports and Entertainment Law Mediation Competition was organized by the Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (CADR) and Dr. P.C. Markanda Chair on ADR, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab. The event spanned over a period of three days, from 31st March to 2nd April 2023, consisting of the preliminary rounds, quarter-final round, semi-final round, and the final round. The competition witnessed the participation of 32 teams representing the top universities from all over the nation. The competition was judged by about 40 assessors comprising of professional experts and academicians. The propositions for the competition covered various nuances of sports and entertainment law. The problem for the final round was centered on a dispute between an established tennis player and the Board of Tennis Control, India over the constitutionality of code of conduct rules.

The Competition was held in association with Indus Law, Principal Knowledge Partner, Sama ODR Platform, Advisory Partner, Markanda Advocates, Expert Partner, Mediator Academy, Education Partner, Pepperdine School of Law, and Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Indian Dispute Resolution Centre (IDRC), and Centre for Mediation & Conciliation as our Knowledge Partners, Latest Laws as Media Partner.

Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur won the best negotiating pair. The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata was declared as runner-up in negotiation. The Best Mediator team was awarded to National Law School India University, Bangalore. Army Institute of Law, Mohali was declared as runner-up mediator. The prize of best mediation plan was awarded to Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur.
