NLIU-Bhopal – India Foundation, 2nd Constitutional Law Symposium Commences

The 2nd NLIU-India Foundation Constitutional Law Symposium commenced on 14th March, Saturday.

The day began with an inaugural ceremony, graced by Chief Guest Major General Dhruv Katoch (Director, India Foundation), and Prof. Dr. Ghayur Alam (Dean, Academics, NLIU). Major General Dhruv Katoch stressed that even though we have not lived in the time of the making of the Constitution, we are in the time of making use of the Constitution. He elaborated upon the importance and relevance of the Constitution in the armed forces, narrating his personal experiences. As lawyers, he reminded the students, it is their responsibility to ponder and preserve this living document.

Prof. Alam, in his address, talked about the importance of staying calm in the face of adverse times like these. He emphasized that the Constitution is necessary, was necessary and will always be necessary.

The day progressed with thought-provoking paper presentations on anti-defection law, transgender rights, Citizenship (Amendment) Act and the right to be forgotten.

On the second day, the Symposium will witness panel discussions on current "Sovereignty in the Digital Age" and "Rethinking Parliamentary Democracy", which will feature dignitaries like Mr. O.P. Rawat (Former Chief Election Commissioner, India), Mr. Bhupender Yadav (Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha), Retd. Justice G Raghuram (Director, National Judicial Academy) and Mr. R Venkatramani (Senior Advocate, Supreme Court).
