Cyber Laws & Women: HNLU And NCW Host Consultation On Digital Safety For Women

Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur, in partnership with the National Commission for Women (NCW), New Delhi, a statutory body of the Government of India, championing the protection and promotion of women's rights across the country, organized a significant conference titled "Cyber Laws & Women" at its campus in Nava Raipur, Atal Nagar. The conference aimed to shed light on the pressing issue of women's safety in the digital domain and promote awareness of the legal frameworks designed to protect them.

The event encompassed four plenary sessions that delved into critical aspects of women's digital safety, including Financial frauds targeting women; Laws against non-consensual sharing of intimate images; Safeguarding women in the digital age and combating AI-driven cybercrimes and Victimization of women in cyberspace and the governing laws.

Distinguished resource persons from diverse fields such as law enforcement, academia, and judiciary led the sessions. The Chief Guest of the event, Shri S.R.P. Kalluri, I.P.S., ADG, Chhattisgarh Police, in his opening remark stated that this is not just the time of Cyber Crimes, rather the time of Cyber War. He also apprised of the very fact how the women become the easiest target of the cyber frauds and the government is taking steps to curb it. 

The Guest of Honour Ms. Monika Yadav, Deputy Secretary, NCW asserted how NCW has been rigorously working to digitally empower women and sensitizing them about the grievance mechanism.

The invited speakers featured judges and advocates from the District and High Courts from of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh who shared their views and proposed new dimensions for the betterment of the existing laws and policies.

Ms. Ankita Sharma, I.P.S. and Ms. Bhavana Gupta, I.P.S., Superintendents of Police, Chhattisgarh, and Ms. Shikha Chibbar, Master Trainer, Central Academy of Police Training, Bhopal shared their experiential learnings, making the event a balance of academic as well as practice.

The conference's primary objective was to increase awareness about legal protections against cybercrime targeting women and to discuss innovative legal reforms to address emerging digital-age challenges. This collaborative initiative underscores HNLU and NCW's commitment to fostering safer digital spaces for women and empowering them with knowledge of their rights.
