HNLU Celebrates 78th Independence Day And Launches: 'Constitution@75: HNLU Series'
Hidyatullah National Law University celebrated the 78th Year of Independence Day celebrations attended by the students, staff and faculty at the campus.
Prof V.C.Vivekanandan, the Vice Chancellor took the guard of honour and hoisted the Tricolor in the campus and addressed the gathering. He underlined the importance of preserving freedom by respecting the freedom of others with legal education and legal fraternity playing a pivotal role in preserving and enhancing the values of freedom in a democracy.
He also launched the “CONSTITUTION@75: HNLU SERIES” to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Indian Constitution. The event series, organized by the Centre for Constitutional Law & Federalism and the Centre for Innovation & IP Policy, commenced on Independence Day and will span over six months, culminating on 26th January 2025.
Through this series of events, HNLU aims not only to celebrate a cherished constitution among the world nation states but also to reach out to the legal fraternity and even the schools where the future architects of Indian Nation State will emerge. The series aims for outreach of the foundation of future India through the principles of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity enshrined in our constitution and also its evolutionary trajectory in the times of technological revolution.
Post the tricolour hoisting, the series started with a Round Table discussion on 'The Indian Constitution: Triumph and Turbulence,' The Round Table had Prof. (Dr.) Azimkhan Pathan, Dean and Professor, Faculty of Law, Kalinga University Raipur. Dr. Deepak Srivastava (Dean UG, HNLU) and Dr. Avinash Samal (Dean Social Sciences & Student Welfare, HNLU), Mr. Shantanu Patel representing Undergraduate studies and Ms. Harsimran Kaur representing Post Graduate Studies at HNLU. The round table explored the historical significance and ongoing challenges of the Indian Constitution, reflecting on its resilience and adaptability over them past 75 years.
During the event, Dr. Azim Pathan, Guest of Honour, highlighted the intricate challenges faced by our legislature today and underscored the potential for reforms that could help restore its status as a vital pillar of our democracy.
Speaking on the role and evolution of the judiciary and the Indian Supreme Court over the last 75 years, Dean UG Studies, Dr. Deepak Srivastava, noted that the judiciary's ability to navigate through challenges has been pivotal in maintaining the sanctity of our constitutional framework while also adapting to the dynamic socio-political landscape of India.
Discussing centre-state relations and cooperative federalism, Dr. Avinash Samal shed light on the delicate balance of power between the Centre and the States. He emphasized that federalism has been both a strength and a source of contention, and managing this relationship will be key to India's future governance.
Mr.Shantanu Patel shared his insights into the evolving relationship between the Constitution and its citizens and Ms.Harsimran Kaur highlighted that the protection of fundamental rights remains a dynamic field that must adapt to new-age challenges while staying true to its original intent.
The series with six events running till January 2025 will also bring out a publication of HNLU Press titled ' Constitution 75- Past, Present and Future'. It will also produce educational toolkits, e-dockets and other research monographs as part of the celebration. Earlier the event was graced by Dr.Vipan Kumar, Registrar in charge welcoming the gathering and Prof Yogendra Srivastav, Dean of PG giving its opening remarks. The programme and the series was designed and will be coordinated by Ms. Garima Panwar and Mr. Abhinav Shukla faculty of HNLU.
