HNLU Career Conclave 2022: Panel Discussions On "Civil Services: A Deliberation On Journey, Competition And Success" And "The Gateway To PSUs: Preparation & Practice"

The HNLU Career Development Conclave 2022 successfully conducted the fifth and sixth panel discussions on the themes of "Civil Services: A deliberation on Journey, Competition and Success" and "The Gateway to PSUs: Preparation & Practice" on 21st of August, 2022. The keynote address for the 5th panel was delivered by the Chief Legal Counsel of Cairn Oil and Gas Mr. Ashis Mukherjee. He highlighted the benefits of working in a PSU as these enterprises offer various perks, great infrastructure and facilities to their employees. Regarding difference in preparation for CLAT-LLM and CLAT-PSU, Mr. Vivek Singh, Manager (Legal) - Oil India Limited mentioned that there is no such distinction in syllabus. However, what makes the difference is the hard work and patience put in preparation. Delving into the risks involved in job of a legal officer, Mr. Saurabh Mishra, Assistant Legal Advisor in ONGC spoke of the lack of motivation to excel in the field. As to joining PSUs immediately after graduating, Mr. Govinda Yadav, Deputy Manager (Law) - Power Grid Corp. of India was in favour of it. He also emphasized on the necessity to participate in the extra-curricular activities in the college as it makes a person habitual of managing multiple tasks.

The opening remarks for the sixth panel on civil services were given by Prof. (Dr.) V.C. Vivekanandan, Vice-Chancellor, HNLU Raipur. He remembered his days of being an aspirant of the civil services examinations and eventually choosing academia. Addressing the gathering, IPS Mr. Santosh Kumar Singh, signified the importance of Civil Services by explaining the perks and satisfaction that one gets after joining these services. With respect to his transition from being an assistant professor to a police officer, he talked about the opportunities and challenges one gets after joining the services. Dealing with the problems one faces during the journey of Civil Services examination, Ms. Rena Jamil explained the syllabus, the importance of CSAT in prelims exam and the ideal time from when one should start his/her preparation. Talking about encountering an unfamiliar situation, she focused on the importance of emotional quotient as well as creativity to find solution using limited resources. Speaking about the motivation for choosing the Civil Services, Dy.SP, Mr. Siddhant Tiwari who is an alumnus of HNLU Raipur expressed his willingness to make a difference in the society through good policing. Another young alumnus of HNLU, Mr. Gourab Agarwal who cleared the UPSC-CSE 2021 with an AIR 86 discussed the preparation strategy that he had followed. He discussed about the uncertainty an aspirant faces during the preparation of the exam and the failure that one can encounter during this phase. The Registrar of the University Prof. (Dr.) Uday Shankar proposed the vote of thanks expressing his gratitude towards the panellists for guiding and motivating the students.

The next set of panel discussion of the Conclave is on the segments of Entrepreneurs, Start-Ups and Public Policy on 27th and 28th of August, 2022. The upcoming panels will host industry experts who will enlighten the students with their enriching and fruitful experience.
