BITS Law School: International Youth Day With New Social Initiatives In Collaboration With Maharashtra State Commission For Women

BITS Law School, Mumbai, a new-age law school under the aegis of BITS Pilani, marked International Youth Day in collaboration with Maharashtra State Commission for Women, The Alliance against Centres of Trafficking (ACT) and Prakruthi, an NGO. The occasion also recognised four outstanding students from the class of 2023-28, who were honoured with the prestigious BITSAA (BITS Alumni Association) International Awards for their exceptional academic performance and commitment.

Ms Aditi Tatkare, the Minister of Women & Child Development, Government of Maharashtra, was the chief guest with Prof. (Dr) Ashish Bharadwaj, Founding Dean, BITS Law School hosting the event. Mr Anand Prakash Paranjape, Former MP, Kalyan, Maharashtra, Mr Omprakash Chitlange, CEO Century Rayon, Grasim Industries, and Dr Amit Thakre, AVP Research and Analytics, State Lead, Prakruthi graced the event with their presence.


"I take this opportunity to invite BITSLAW and its students to share their opinions and thoughts in the form of recommendations to the government using them as a medium", said Ms Aditi Tatkare, Minister of Women & Child Development, Government of Maharashtra. “Every 5 years, there's a generation that comes into existence with new demands and different perspectives”, she added while addressing the young minds at BITS Law School.

Prof. (Dr) Ashish Bharadwaj, Founding Dean, BITS Law School said “the significance of UN's International Youth Day and this year's theme celebrates digital contributions of youth in meeting Sustainable Development Goals if provided with knowledge, mentoring, and opportunities - from poverty, health, education to peace, access to justice, and gender equality.”

To mark the occasion, BITS Law School inaugurated the 'Young India Unchained' Club, an extension of an existing social initiative at its new residential campus in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The new club aims to raise awareness about safety issues affecting the youth. By actively engaging with social initiatives and responsible organizations, law students gain valuable insights into the legal protections surrounding various societal challenges. Additionally, as part of BITSLAW's program, first-year students are provided the opportunity to intern with NGOs and state commissions, fostering a practical understanding and empathy for real-world issues.
