6th Convocation Of HNLU Raipur: Celebrating Excellence In Legal Education

Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), a leading institution for legal education and research in the country, is pleased to announce the 6th convocation ceremony scheduled to take place on June 18, 2023. The Convocation shall take place at the Auditorium of IIIT Nava Raipur. The Convocation will graduate a total of 152 students of B.A.LL.B. (Hons) out of which 124 students will receive degrees in person and 28 students will receive degrees in absentia. Similarly, a total of 55 students will be graduating from the LL.M. programme out of which 30 students will receive the degree in person and 25 students will receive the degree in absentia. Ms. Debmita Mondal & Ms. Shhraddha Rajput, faculty at HNLU will be receiving the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.

The Convocation will be presided over by Justice Aniruddha Bose, Judge, Supreme Court of India, and Visitor, HNLU. The Chancellor of HNLU and Chief Justice of the High Court of Chhattisgarh, Justice Ramesh Sinha, will declare the convocation open and confer the degrees on the graduating students and PhD Scholars.

Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Shri Bupesh Baghel will be the Guest of Honour at the event. Justice M. R. Shah, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, and former Executive Council member of HNLU will be the Chief Guest and deliver the Convocation address. The event will be graced by Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, Judge, Supreme Court of India.

The event will have the participation of Justice Sanjay K Agrawal and Justice Sam Koshy, Judges of the High Court of Chhattisgarh. Shri Mohammad Akbar, Minister of Law and Justice, Shri Umesh Patel, Minister of Higher Education, and Shri Prem Singh Sai Tekam, Minister of Tribal Affairs, Government of Chhattisgarh will grace the Convocation. The event will also have honorable presence Justice Shri Goda Raghuram, former Director of the National Judicial Academy, Bhopal.

The Convocation event will also have a galaxy of eminent academics, notably Prof. (Dr.) Ranbir Singh, Former Vice-Chancellor, NALSAR & NLU Delhi, Prof. (Dr.) R. Venkata Rao, Director of India International University of Legal Education & Research, Goa, Prof. (Dr.) Paramjit Jaswal, Vice-Chancellor, SRM University, Prof. (Dr.) Yajulu Medury, Vice-Chancellor, Mahindra University, Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar Sinha, Director, ILI, Prof. (Dr.) Vijender Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, MNLU Nagpur, Prof. (Dr.) S. Shantkakumar, Director, Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar, Prof. (Dr.) Ram Kankani, Director, IIM Raipur and Prof. Pradip Kumar Sinha, Director of IIIT Nava Raipur.

The event will also witness the awarding of 36 Gold Medals to 13 UG and 3 PG students for their exceptional academic achievements. These medals include prestigious ones like the Chancellor’s Gold Medal, The University’s Gold Medal for the best outgoing student, Chhattisgarh State Bar Council Gold Medal, The Late Kamal Narayan Sharma Gold Medal, Late Smt. Shanti Devi Agrawal Memorial Gold Medal, Shri Vidyadhar Mishra Memorial Gold Medal, Dinesh Prasad Srivastava Memorial Gold Medal, Late Shri Hamidullah Khan Ex-MLA Kabirdham Gold Medal, Late K.P. Munshi Gold Medal, Syed Wakil Ahmed Rizvi Gold Medal, among others.

HNLU has been consistently contributing to the advancement of legal education in the state and has achieved remarkable recognition. The University was ranked 5th among National Law Universities by India Today and secured the 50th position among world universities for its real contribution to society in 2021 and 2022, according to the World Universities Real Impact (WURI).

Over the past year, HNLU has undertaken numerous academic initiatives aimed at the professional development of students. These initiatives include the HNLU Academic Assistance and Internship Programme (HAAI), which provides research and teaching assistance to the faculty, the HNLU International Exchange Academy (HEXA), and the Vice-Chancellor Means-cum-Merit Scholarship. Additionally, HNLU introduced the pioneering HNLU Health Shield scheme, offering insurance coverage of Rs 1 lakh to each individual student through the National Insurance Company, becoming the first National Law University to implement such an initiative. The University has also received funding from the National Commission for Women to conduct Seminar/Conferences and research projects. The Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India has given a grant to establish a Pro-Bono Club at the University.

Justice M.R. Shah and Justice Prasant Kumar Mishra launched a major research initiative named Research-Hub & Spoke (R-HAS) in April 2023. This initiative has taken off with five schools interfacing Law & Technology Innovation, Governance, Public Policy, Social Sciences, and Corporate Affairs. These research schools comprise 25 centres focusing on research, advocacy, and academic inputs.
