Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU) organized an impactful programme on the fight against drug abuse with an Awareness Drive against the Use of Drugs. The event, held on 24the July, witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students supported by faculty, and staff, affirming the university's commitment to promoting a drug-free environment within its campus and beyond.
The Awareness Drive programme was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) VC Vivekanandan, underlining the dreadful impact of the use of drugs, he commented “Use of banned substances is widespread and is taking a denial mode will end up in irreparable damage to the individual and also to the fabric of the community as a whole. It is important that if a person has unfortunately fallen into such habits they seek professional help. He underlined that law students to be professionals soon, need to be role models as the public at large are pinning their hopes on them for redressal of their problems.”
His powerful speech resonated with the audience, emphasizing the urgent need for collective action to combat the alarming rise of drug abuse among the youth.
Following the Vice-Chancellor's address, the stage came alive with an enthralling Nukkad Natak or Street Play, performed by the passionate and talented student volunteers of the Legal Aid and Social Services Committee. The gripping performance vividly portrayed the harrowing consequences of drug addiction, leaving a lasting impact on the spectators and driving home the message of the campaign.
Mr. Ajay Kumar, Counsellor of Kalyani United Rehabilitation Centre Raipur, took the stage next and provided valuable insights into the practical realities of drug abuse. He shared compelling stories of individuals struggling with addiction and how it affects not only their own health and behavior but also the well-being of their families. Mr. Kumar also highlighted the various rehabilitation and community programs offered at the rehabilitation center to aid those seeking help.
Ms. Lalita Mehar, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Raipur, delivered a thought-provoking speech, shedding light on the relentless efforts undertaken by the Raipur Police to raise awareness about the harmful use of drugs. She emphasized the importance of community engagement in curbing drug abuse and encouraged everyone present to actively participate in the cause.
Adding to the discourse, Ms. Chanchal Tiwari, Additional Superintendent of Police, spoke passionately about the role every individual in society plays in preventing addiction. Her uplifting words inspired the audience to be proactive in building a safe and drug-free environment for everyone.
Following the enlightening addresses, an Interactive Session with the students was conducted, providing an open platform for discussions, questions, and sharing experiences related to drug abuse. This interactive approach fostered an atmosphere of learning and understanding, encouraging students to be part of the solution.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Kaumudhi Challa, Associate Professor, and Convenor of the Legal Aid Committee at HNLU. Dr. Challa expressed gratitude to all the distinguished speakers, participants, and organizers for their unwavering support in making the Awareness Drive a resounding success. The faculty team of Dr. Eritrya Roy, Ms. Apurva Sharma, Dr. Parvesh Rajput, Mr.Surya Narayana Raju, Ms. Anita Singh, Dr. Avinash Samal, Dean of Student Welfare and Prof. Yogendra Srivastav, Dean PG planned and conducted this campaign.
