About GMU
Gujarat Maritime University (GMU) is an endeavour by the Gujarat Maritime Board, Government of Gujarat to provide a fillip to the growth of the maritime sector and to bridge the knowledge gap within the industry. GMU has been established to serve the global maritime community by producing educated and well-trained professionals in the maritime domain. It aims to enhance and increase the human capital and capacity of the maritime industry both in India and across the globe. To realize these objectives short-term online course on International Maritime Law has been designed.
The University began its academic journey in 2019 and has established two schools so far namely, the School of Maritime Law, Policy and Administration and the School of Maritime Management. Moreover, keeping in mind the potential of research and findings in different areas of the maritime sector, the University has also established various research centres, namely the Centre for Executive Education, Centre for Maritime Dispute Resolution, Centre for Maritime Legal Studies, Centre for Maritime Labour Law, Centre for Maritime Environmental Law and the Centre for Postgraduate Legal studies. GMU is one of the first of its kind, in India, offering a programme structure that commensurate with the leading international maritime universities.
The Governing Body of the University is led by the Chief Secretary of the Government of Gujarat. It consists of senior officials of the Government of Gujarat, top industry leaders, and academicians. The University operates from its transitory campus at the Gujarat National Law University in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The University will establish its permanent campus at GIFT City, Gandhinagar.
About The Faculty
An alumnus of The Hague Academy, Netherlands, Dr. Srikant holds a doctoral degree from the USA and is currently a visiting professor of International Law at various NLUs. He is the head of International Law at Chambers of Dr. Srikant Parthasarathy and D-Tenant at Holborn Chambers London
Course Objective
Describe the key skills, knowledge, and dispositions that students will achieve by the end of the course; Basic understanding of the principles of ICJ and its procedure, ability to understand the jurisprudence of admission and evaluation of evidence, a basic understanding of the measures by ICJ.
Course Description
The Course addresses the techniques of practice before the International Court of Justice and its jurisprudence. It does not include the technicalities of any other international tribunal. It also does not addresses the basics of International Law. The course will be taught by lecture method, Socratic discussion, and seminar-style discussion.
