Sathyabama: Col. Dr. Jeppiaar 2nd National Client Counselling Competition 2023 [3rd February]
The Client Counselling Competition promotes greater knowledge and interest among law students in the preventative law and counselling functions of law practice. It also encourages students to develop interviewing, planning and analytical skills in the lawyer- client relationship in the law office. Interviewing and advising are a significant part of most lawyer’s work. The Competition provides an opportunity for a valuable educational and cultural interchange between students, law teachers, and legal practitioners. This competition aims at enhancing skills relating to Initial interview with a person playing the role of the client, Address the client’s legal and non-legal needs, The advocate-client relationship, Build rapport, Determine client goals, Consider applicable law, etc.
ABOUT COMPETITION
PREREQUISITE FOR STAGES
The Competition follows, Point Qualification Format in which teams accumulating the highest number of points in the preliminary rounds will qualify for the Quarter Finals followed by the Semi-Final Rounds and thereon for the Final Rounds.
There will be four (4) rounds of competition
- The Preliminary Round
- The Quarter Finals (for 8 short listed Teams).
- The Semi Final Round (for 4 short listed Teams)
- The Final Round (for the Final 2 Teams)
- Each Counselling Session is divided into three parts: Consultation, Post-Consultation and Critique.
- During the consultation and post-consultation, the team may use books, notes and other materials.
THEME- The problem for the Client Counselling will be based on any of these subject areas: Indian Penal Code, Environmental Law, Constitutional Law, Labour Law, Family Law, International Humanitarian & Refugee Law.
TIME LIMIT FOR EACH ROUND PER TEAM:
PRELIMINARY ROUND- 30 Minutes (Online)
- Consultation Period is 20 Minutes.
• Post Consultation Period is 5 Minutes.
• Critique Period is 5 Minutes.
QUARTER FINALS- 30 Minutes (Online)
- Consultation Period is 20 Minutes.
• Post Consultation Period is 5 Minutes.
• Critique Period is 5 Minutes.
SEMI-FINALS- 35 Minutes (Offline) (11th February,2023-Saturday)
- Consultation Period is 25 Minutes.
• Post Consultation Period is 5 Minutes.
• Critique Period is 5 Minutes.
FINALS- 40 Minutes (Offline) (11th February,2023-Saturday)
- Consultation Period is 25 Minutes.
• Post Consultation Period is 10 Minutes.
• Critique Period is 5 Minutes.
RULES FOR THE COMPETITION
The School of Law, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology is conducting Col. Dr. Jeppiaar 2nd National Client Counselling Competition, 2023. The Competition shall be conducted on 3rd February 2023. The rules for the competition are given below:
- The decision of the Judges shall be final regarding the outcome of the Rounds.
- The Organizers reserve the right to the take disqualify the participants if indulged unethical, wrongful or unprofessional conduct.
- Scouting is not allowed under any circumstances and may lead to disqualification.
- If there is any situation, not covered by the Rules, the decision of the Organizers shall be final and binding.
- The participants are always required to comply with the rules formulated by the Organizing Committee during the competition. In case of any non-compliance with the rules of the competition, penalty may be imposed by deduction of marks and the teams may also be disqualified after they have been warned once.
- All the participants will receive their Participation Certificates.
TEAM COMPOSITION
- Each team must consist of two participants only.
- The two participants shall be from the same Institution.
MODE OF THE COMPETITION: Binary Mode ( i.e. preliminary round and quarter-finals will be conducted on online platform and semi-finals and finals will be conducted offline).
LANGUAGE: English.
ELIGIBILITY: Students of 5-year or 3-year law degree courses from any University/ Law School/ College/ Department are eligible for registration of their team.

REGISTRATION DETAILS
- Teams can register by filling up the google form, which is given below. Participants are selected on first come first serve basis.

- The registration fee shall be Rs.1,500/- for each team. The registration fee shall be non-refundable and non-transferable.
- The last date for registration is 25-01-2023.
- Once a team registers by completing the formalities given, a Code (hereinafter “Team Code”) shall be assigned to the team by the Organizing Committee.
- The rooms for all the sessions will be conveyed to the participants prior to the event.
- The organizing committee has the exclusive right to decide in case of any dispute related to the competition. The decision of the organizing committee in such a case shall be final.
PAYMENT DETAILS
- The Mode of Payment of the registration fee shall be Account Transfer or UPI transfer and shall be informed after conformation of Provisional Registration.
