On the occasion of Legal Services Day, the Legal Service Committee (LSC) at National Law University, Delhi (NLUD) under the sponsorship of Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) is organising the first Annual Edition of Essay Writing Competition, 2024. It is an invite for the students to register for the competition and become a part of legal literacy campaign. This virtual competition will provide an excellent platform for students to showcase their legal acumen and contribute to the discourse on the following legal topic.
About the Competition
The Annual Essay Competition is the flagship initiative of the LSC at NLUD to celebrate Legal Services Day. This competition offers participants a unique opportunity to express their critical opinions, thoughts, and views on identified thematic areas (given below) from an interdisciplinary lens. The essay has to be on a socio-legal topic with special insights to the law and policy on the subject area.
Eligibility
- Student pursuing Five-Year/Three-Year LLB Programme.
- Student pursing One-Year/Two-Year LLM Programme.
- Student/Researchers pursuing any other undergraduate or postgraduate degree from any recognized university in the field of social sciences or legal studies.
Competition Theme
For the first edition of the Competition, the theme is “Legal Aid as a Fundamental Right: Bridging the Socio-Economic Divide”
Suggested sub-themes:

- Challenges in Delivering Legal Aid to Vulnerable Populations
- Role of NGOs and Civil Society in Expanding Legal Aid

- Best practices in ensuring Legal Aid for the needy
- Capacity Building of Communities: Importance of Para-Legal Work
Sub-themes listed above are intended as suggestions only. Comprehensive research is encouraged and submissions on any pertinent topic related to the theme are invited.
Submission Guidelines:
- There is no registration fee for submission of the Essay.
- Submission shall be sent via Google form: https://forms.gle/BkjDeVDWS7irJgbR6
- Essay must feature original and unpublished content.
- Essay should be submitted in Microsoft Word and PDF format.
- The documents must not contain any author information.
- Formatting Guidelines:
- Font type: Times New Roman
- Font Size: 12
- Line Spacing: 1.5
- Submission Length: 800 to 1200 words
- Citation Style: OSCOLA (4th edition)
Awards and Perks:
- The winner of the competition will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 5000 INR along with a certificate.
- The first runner-up will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 2000 INR along with a certificate.
- The second runner-up will be awarded as cash prize of Rs. 1000 INR along with a certificate.
- A certificate of participation will be provided to all participants.
Evaluation Criteria:
- Originality and creativity of ideas presented.
- Quality and coherence of arguments.
- Thoroughness of research and references.
- Structure and organization of the essay.
- Clarity and precision of language.
- Insightfulness and innovative solution.
- No plagiarism and similarity index below 10%.
