Adv. Balasaheb Apte College of Law annually hosts Adv. B. P. Apte Memorial National Mock Trial, Moot Court Competition & Judgement Writing Competition. This Annual Event of Adv. Balasaheb Apte College of Law, Mumbai is hosted in the fond memory of Late Shri. Balwant Parshuram Apte (widely known as Adv. Balasaheb Apte), a distinguished legal luminary and also a noted parliamentarian, in furtherance of his aim to attract students of law and young advocates towards the actual practice of advocacy and also to commemorate his contribution to the legal fraternity.
The Mock Trial Competition is a new age competition wherein a make-believe court room is setup and law students are required to examine the witnesses for a mock case. This trial is conducted in a manner as per the actual court procedure. In this competition, the students are expected to show their talent through knowledge of law, communication, confidence and spontaneity. In the Judgment Writing Competition, participants are required to step into the robes of a Judge and present a judgment on the mock case. Eminent personalities from the legal fraternity grace us as judges. Final round of the competition is judged by the Hon'ble High Court Judges.
This 12th edition, has a division bench of Justice N.J. Jamadar, Bombay High Court and Justice Milind Jadhav, Bombay High Court. The competition is one of the most sought-after legal events among the law colleges, universities and National Law Universities attracting participants from across India. The 12th edition of this competition is scheduled from 27th September to 29th September, 2024.
This year, the competition is based on the 'Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015'. The uniqueness of this competition is that it is not confined to any particular proceeding of a single forum /court. The participants shall get an opportunity to experience the proceedings of a Trial Court and the High Court as well. The preliminary round will be in the nature of a Mock Trial and the semi-final and final rounds will be a Moot Court arising out of a Writ Petition filed in the High Court, with issues relating to the constitutional validity of section 15 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
The winning team will be awarded with a Cash prize of ₹20,000 and the Winner's Trophy. Cash prizes and trophies shall also be given to the Runner- up team, Best Student Advocate & Best Judgement.
