DNLU SLJ is organising the "1st SLJ JUSTICE SL KOCHAR SYMPOSIUM 2025” in collaboration with Luthra and Luthra Law Offices India. This competition aims to provide a platform for students to showcase their legal acumen in the field of Dispute Resolution.

Dharmashastra National Law University– Student Law Journal (DNLU SLJ) is a peer-reviewed, student-run academic journal with the mission of disseminating high-calibre research on law and legal studies from all angles, including comparative, global, and transdisciplinary views. As a flagship initiative of DNLU, the journal was conceptualised to provide a peculiar platform for the expression of opinions, thoughts, and views of the student fraternity through publications in the forms of scholarly articles, research papers, book reviews, and case studies. The journal has the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court as Patron-in-Chief and the Vice Chancellor as Patron. Moreover, the advisory board of the Journal has an esteemed panel of Mr. Manan Lahoty, Prof. Richard Albert, Prof. Yaniv Roznai, Prof. Prabhakar Singh, Mr. Abhijit Das, and Mr. Ajar Rab, amongst others.

Through this competition, the Student Law Journal strives to bring together a community of legal experts and scholars who can contribute to advancing the study and understanding of Dispute Resolution.

The theme for the Symposium is 'Dispute Resolution' Under this some of the suggestive sub-themes that the students can explore include:

III. Emerging Trends in Technology Dispute Resolution

IV. Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) in International Law

V. Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) and Dispute Resolution

VII. Role of Dispute Resolution in Crisis Management

VIII. Exploring the Significance of ADR in Commercial Disputes

X. Arbitration in Commercial Contracts: Trends and Best Practices

Eligibility

1. Student/ research scholars enrolled in any UG/PG/PHD course from any Indian University are eligible to participate in the competition.

2. Maximum of three authors can engage in the competition.

3. Multiple entries are not allowed from the same authors.

Important Dates

  • Release of Call for Registration for Symposium: 23rd November 2024
  • Last Date of Submission: 18th January 2025
  • Declaration of Shortlisted articles for paper presentation: 1st Week of February 2025

Awards and Prizes

Cash Prizes:

  • Winner: INR 20,000/-
  • First Runner- up: INR 15,000/-
  • Second Runner- up: INR 10,000/-

Internship Opportunity:

The author(s) of the top three essays i.e., (i) Winner, (ii) First Runner-up and (iii) Second Runner-up, will be granted an opportunity to intern with Luthra and Luthra Law Offices India as per the Internship Policy of the firm.

Publication: Top ten entries will be published as Special Volume of the DNLU-Student Law Journal.

Certificate of Merit: A 'Certificate of Merit' shall be provided to the top ten entries.

Certificate of Participation: A 'Certificate of Participation' shall be provided to all the entries.

Registration and Submission

Interested applicants may directly submit their manuscripts through the Submission form.

Registration Fee

  • Single authorship: INR 500/-
  • Co-authorship (up to a maximum of two authors): INR 800/-
  • Three authors: INR 1200/-

Submission Guidelines

1. Word limit for the abstract: 100 to 150 words. Essays must be original, unpublished, non-plagiarised and shall not be under simultaneous consideration for publication elsewhere.

2. The main body of the essay: Times New Roman, Font Size 12, line spacing 1.5 and justified alignment.

3. Footnotes must be cited strictly in accordance with the latest OSCOLA (4th edition) format. No end notes or descriptive footnotes are permitted.

4. Footnotes: Times New Roman font, Font Size 10 and line spacing 1.0.

5. Copyright of the essays selected for publication shall vest with DNLU.

6. The usage of AI is limited to 10% of the whole manuscript. Plagiarism should be less than 15%
