S. Jalan & Co. Rejigs Its People – Equity Partnership & CEO Appointment Amongst Other Promotions

In a recent strategic move, the Kolkata-based firm S. Jalan & Co. brought in a diversified level of change across its talent pool. From the leadership levels to core execution levels, the firm has again announced a very confident and aggressive approach toward elevating its people.

To begin with, Sourav Ghosh, an equity Partner for sixteen years having an overall experience of 23 years, has now also been given the responsibility of being the Managing Partner of the firm. As a result, Sourav will be overlooking the critical dynamics of the firm in terms of the current capabilities, diversification scopes in terms of new practice area development, expansion,and the firm's vision.In addition, he will overlook the functioning of all operational offices of the firm.

Sourav's practice commenced in commercial dispute resolution and litigation. Presently his expertise extends to advising on financial transactions, international Arbitration, FEMA, corporate documentation, Real Estate acquisition, mining leases, joint ventures, enforcement of restrictive covenants, bank guarantee matters, Infrastructure Arbitration, Bankruptcy Proceedings, Strategic Alliances, Franchising, E-commerce, etc.

Next in line, a rainmaker for long, Samrat Sengupta, is now an Equity Partner to have been entrusted with the equity holding in the firm. He manages the Delhi office of the firm and the assignment of North India. He has extensive experience in Arbitration before Tribunals and Commercial Litigation in different High Courts and the Supreme Court of India. In addition, he is involved in commercial dispute resolutions, including litigation, Infrastructure arbitration and mediation, regulatory work, Bankruptcy matters, enforcement of restrictive covenants, and bank guarantee matters.

Another attractive elevation in the current announcement of the firm is the appointment of its Chief Executive Officer, Subhomoy Chakraborty, who is also an Associate Partner in the firm, having an experience of twenty years in corporate practice in the Real Estate and PSU sectors. Subhomoy will closely watch the firm's brand and people growth strategy and other factors like technology as a changemaker in the firm's modus operandi etc. In addition, Subhomoy possesses litigation experience of over two decades across various domains.

There have been a couple of attorney promotions at the core execution level. Snehasish Sen and Titash Mukherjee have been promoted as Associate Partner of the firm's Kolkata office.

Snehasish Sen has been with the firm for five years with an overall experience of 11 years. His area of practice and experience majorly includes commercial arbitration, commercial litigations, Bankruptcy Proceeding, and appearances before High Courts, forums like NCLT, and others.

Titash Mukherjee is A Law Graduate from the University of Calcutta, 2012, and a Post Graduate in Business Law with an overall experience of 12 years. Her practice experience includes Real Estate documentation, mortgages, leases, township projects, transactional financial documents for project finances, and focuses on insolvency, dispute resolution, real estate, and general corporate advisory.

Next, Mr. Abhishek Banerjee has been promoted to Principal Associate of the firm's Kolkata office.

Abhishek has an overall experience of 08 years. His area of practice and experience majorly includes commercial and Infrastructural arbitrations, Real Estate litigations, Commercial litigation, Bank Guarantee matters, Writ matters, Bankruptcy Proceeding, and appearances before High Courts, forums like NCLT, and others.
