LAMP Fellowship is inviting applications for 2015-16, February 16 last date to apply
The prestigious and coveted Legislative Assistants to Members of Parliament (LAMP) Fellowship is now inviting applications for 2015-16. PRS Legislative Research through a notice on its website has said that “Fellowship places one legislative assistant to work with one MP for a period of 11 months. The Fellowship exposes LAMP Fellows to the working of Parliament and the legislative process. The Fellowship encourages the best and the brightest young individuals to get involved in public service.”
The Scholarship, started in 2010 provides an opportunity to get mentored by a Member of Parliament. The fellows work full time for eleven months, i.e. “from the beginning of the Monsoon session to the end of the Budget session of Parliament.”
The fellows get a chance to work on diverse issues, such as defence, food security, environment, economics and foreign affairs. In addition, a fellow may get constituency related matters too. The fellowship gives an opportunity to work with policy makers and research experts.
As per the PRS website, “Several LAMP Fellows have pursued advanced degrees in political science, public policy, and media/communications. Others have chosen to work in areas such as political consulting, public relations, and the development sector. Some Fellows have continued to support the work of other MPs.”
The fellowship is open for persons having at least a Bachelor’s degree in any academic discipline and be 25 years of age or below i.e. born on or after January 1, 1990.LAMP Fellows will receive a stipend of Rs 17,000 per month, with an additional amount of Rs 3,000 per month to cover any expenses incurred.
