In an incident that has sent shock waves in the entire legal fraternity, a lady lawyer was allegedly raped by another advocate in his chamber in Saket district court complex yesterday evening.

Advocate P K Lal, who is in his 50s, raped the lady lawyer, aged 32, after calling her to his chamber.

Lal has been arrested on a complaint filed by the victim.

Condemning the incident, advocate Dhir Singh Kasana, Secretary General of the Saket Bar Association said, “It is very unfortunate. We have suspended the membership of the accused and will serve a notice upon him as and when he is out on bail”.

Kasana said he has ensured that the victim lawyer gets all moral support as she is shaken and in shock still.  Kasana met the victim at the police station this morning and assured her all possible support.

Yesterday's incident is not the first such incident. In April, a 26-year-old had alleged rape in Rohini court by a 60-year-old advocate.

Reacting to the Saket court's incident, advocate Afshan Pracha, who had approached the Supreme Court in May after being molested by the members of the Bar at Tis Hazari court complex, said, “It is such an unfortunate incident. Every now and then we keep hearing of such incidents of misbehavior with lady lawyers.”

Afshan informs that pursuant to her complaint a committee has been formed at the Delhi High Court to look into complaints of sexual harassment at workplace and the victim lawyers should approach the right channel at the earliest instead of running from pillar to post.
