The Kerala High Court Advocate Association (KHCAA) has called upon its member lawyers to observe July 20 (Thursday) as ‘Lawyers’ Unity Day’.

The president of the association, in his letter, said it is in remembrance of the “atrocities perpetrated on lawyers and their defiance against brutalities”.

It marks the day when the self-proclaimed apostles of constitutional freedom realized that they cannot overcome the strength and unity of the legal fraternity with the might of their fist and their unholy nexus with police,” the letter read.

In July last year, alleged manhandling of certain lawyers by media persons inside the high court building had caused huge controversy.

The lawyers had boycotted the court proceedings for a couple of days to condemn the incident.

The mediaroom in the high court building was closed in pursuant to the controversy.

It had all started with alleged incorrect reporting of the proceedings of the association, which had passed a unanimous resolution condemning the police atrocity on a lawyer.
