The High Court has directed the Central Board of Film Certification(CBFC) to allow the public exhibition of Malayalam movie ‘Kathakali’ by granting the necessary certification.
The CBFC had ordered the cut of certain scenes from the film, terming it depicted nudity and used abusive language.The director and producer aggrieved by the same , had approached the court.The case was tallied on the same lines as ‘Udta Punjab’ a movie which was stalled by CBFC on same counts. The Petitioner termed the action of CBFC as an infringement of fundamental right to speech under Article 19(1).It was further stated, the scene of nudity depicted in the film,was within the permissible limits of guidelines issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Justice P.B Suresh Kumar who considered the petition allowed the same, directing the film to be released after appropriate certification by the CBFC.
