This is the second phase of flood relief operations undertaken by the Association. In the first phase, which was carried out soon after the floods, the emphasis was on giving immediate relief to victims who were displaced from their homes to camps. Coordinating with about 50 relief camps situated in and around Ernakulam, the Association distributed materials worth Rs.1.5 crores to several needy families.
Once the families returned to their homes after the recession of floods, the focus was shifted to restoration and rehabilitation. The members of Association provided assistance in cleaning and restoring homes which were badly damaged. After that, efforts were taken to collect household materials which are necessary for leading a normal life for the affected families. The beneficiaries were identified by the members of the Association on the basis of personal visits to flood affected regions.
Today's function was inaugurated by Justice K Surendra Mohan, who expressed that development should not come at the cost of ecological balance.
