Senior Advocate and former Attorney General for India Mukul Rohatgi has contributed Rs. 50 lakhs towards Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund

The Bombay Bar Association (BBA) has donated Rs 2.5 lakhs from the Bombay Bar Association Trust for Kerala flood victims and asked members of the bar to contribute generously in this hour of need. All members can draw a cheque or demand draft in favour of Chief Minister’s Distress Relief fund along with a cover letter with their names and address.

The notice informing members about the procedure to contribute is signed by Dr. Birendra Saraf, secretary of BBA. It states that all the cheques and demand drafts would be collectively forwarded to Kerala’s secretariat.

The notice states:

“You are all aware that the State of Kerala is facing an unprecedented and grave natural calamity of floods. The devastating floods have rendered lakhs of people homeless. Many lives are lost. The infrastructural facilities, roads, electricity, bridges, railways are destroyed by flood waters. Kerala is facing one of the worst floods in a century.

The Chief Minister of Kerala has appealed to common people to contribute to a relief fund set up for bringing life back to normalcy. In this difficult time, we must stand in solidarity and intend to provide help to the stranded people by contributing to the rescue and relief efforts.”

The Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa has also sought contributions from lawyers for relief and rescue of the victims of this tragedy.


Earlier, Attorney General for India KK Venugopal had also donated Rupees One Crore to Kerala Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund. His son and Senior Advocate Krishnan Venugopal has contributed another Fifteen Lakhs for the relief activities.
