The Karnataka Government formation controversy made the Supreme Court open its gates for a midnight hearing. The message sent across was that the gates of Justice should be open all the time for all citizens to raise their grievance.

On Saturday night, following suit, the Madras High Court reportedly allowed a midnight hearing to Karti P Chidambaram, son of former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, against whom Income Tax department had slapped the Black Money Act.

About 11 PM, The Indian Express reported that Karti’s counsel ARL Sundaresh and Satish Parasaran sought permission from Chief Justice Indira Banerjee late last night. Later, the bail application was moved before Justice AD Jagadeesh Chandra at his residence.

The counsel for IT Department told the court that the warrant was issued as he has not appeared pursuant to the summons issued and it would keep the warrant in abeyance if Karti Chidambaram gave the undertaking to appear before the official concerned on his return on the stipulated date.

The court recorded this submission of the IT Department as Karti gave a written undertaking that he would appear before the official on June 28.
