Justice Vijaya Kamlesh Tahilramani has been appointed as Acting Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court with effect from December 5.
She was appointed as Acting Chief Justice for the first time after Chief Justice Mohit Shah retired in 2015, following a steady tenure of over 5 years. Then she assumed duties as Acting Chief Justice in August 2016 after Chief Justice DH Waghela retired.
Justice Tahilramani was elevated to the bench after he worked as a Government Pleader and Public Prosecutor on the appellate side.
Chief Justice Chellur is the second woman chief justice of the Bombay High Court after Justice Sujata Manohar. She was born on December 5, 1955, at Bellary in Karnataka and has the distinction of being the first woman advocate of Bellary and the first woman judge of the Karnataka High Court.
She was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court on September 26, 2012, and thereafter, transferred to Bombay High Court. Her tenure lasted for a little over 15 months.
