Justice Rajendra Menon was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court today. Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal administered oath to Justice Menon.

Justice Rajendra Menon was the Chief Justice of Patna High Court. The SC Collegium had recommended his appointment as Delhi High Court Chief Justice on July 20.

It may be recalled that the initial recommendation of the SC Collegium was for the appointment of Justice Aniruddha Bose, puisne judge of Calcutta High Court, as the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court. However, the Central Government returned the recommendation of Justice Bose, reportedly citing that he lacked of experience as Chief Justice.

Following that, the Collegium decided to recommend Justice Menon as CJ of Delhi HC, and recommended the appointment of Justice Aniruddha Bose as CJ oh Jharkhand High Court.

Justice Menon will be taking place of Justice Gita Mittal, who was the Acting CJ of Delhi HC until her appointment as Chief of Jammu and Kashmir High Court.
