Supreme Court judge, Justice MB Lokur has been appointed as the Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority of India (NALSA), with Justice Gogoi’s appointment as the Chief Justice of India. The senior-most judge, after the CJI, takes up the responsibilities attached to being the Executive Chairman of NALSA.
Justice Lokur is an alumnus of Delhi's Modern School and St. Stephen's College. He enrolled as an advocate in 1977 and has had vast experience in Civil, Criminal, Constitutional, Revenue and Service laws.
He served as the Additional Solicitor General for India from July 1998 to February, 1999, and was elevated as an Additional Judge of Delhi High Court in Februar, 1999. He took charge as the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court from June 2010 to November, 2011 and then as the Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court.
He was elevated to the Supreme Court in June, 2012, and will serve as a judge till 30 December this year.
