Justice HG Ramesh Appointed As Acting CJ Of Karnataka HC [Read Notification]

President has appointed Shri Justice Humchadakatte Gopalaiah Ramesh, senior most Judge of Karnataka High Court, as the Acting Chief Justice of High Court with effect from 10^th October, 2017 consequent upon the retirement of Shri Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee, Chief Justice, Karnataka High Court.

Mr. Justice H.G.Ramesh enrolled as an Advocate on July 16, 1982. He practised in the High Court of Karnataka from 1982 to 2003. He was appointed as an Additional Judge on May 12, 2003 and as a Permanent Judge on September 24, 2004.

In February 2017 Justice Ramesh declined the collegium’s offer to head Madras High Court. Post the vacancy left by promotion of Madras High Court Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, the Supreme Court collegium had recommended appointment of Justice Ramesh to the post. The judge however declined the offer, stating, ‘I request lordships to deny me the honours of becoming the chief justice of Madras High Court’. Justice HG Ramesh had initially written to Chief Justice of India JS Khehar on February 16, a day before Justice S Abdul Nazeer’s swearing-in ceremony, expressing his discontent with the promotion of his junior, Justice Nazeer, of the Karnataka High Court.
