JGLS Legal Aid Clinic Wins Herbert Smith Freehills Community Engagement Awards 2017
The Legal Aid Clinic of Jindal Global Law School (JGLS), O.P. Jindal Global University has won the 2017 Herbert Smith Freehills’ Community Engagement Award for Community Investment through Legal Work along with a cash prize of £2,000. The award recognizes the outstanding team of law students at JGLS who worked closely with the community at large to bring sustainable social impact.
Lauding the efforts of JGLS faculty and students, Chris Parsons, Chairman of Herbert Smith Freehills India Practice, commented, “The fact that the Legal Aid Clinic of JGLS has won the second edition of the Herbert Smith Freehills Community Engagement Award gives me immense pleasure. I have watched JGLS grow from little more than a bold dream into one of the leading law schools in India. Apart from its strong focus on social causes it also produces exceptional lawyers. Two of its talented students joined the HSF Indian internship programme this year and were so impressive that they will be joining the firm full-time as trainee lawyers in London.”
The Award Ceremony was held on 7 September, 2017 at New Delhi. Shivkrit Rai, a 4th year law student and the Head of Right to Education team of the Legal Aid Clinic, commented, “This award would help the team in expanding its reach and ensuring effective implementation of The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009.”
