Allahabad High Court

Bombay High Court

The Bombay High Court dismissed a writ petition filed by a man claiming to have participated in the Quit India Movement of 1942 recognised by the State of Maharashtra as a ‘freedom fighter’ seeking government pension.

The High Court recently refused to grant bail to a man accused of sexually abusing and raping his 16-year-old daughter.

 Delhi High Court

The Delhi High Court recently observed that a rape survivor’s testimony can be accepted without corroboration, especially in a case where the rapist is her father.

Kerala High Court

Referring to tenets of Muhammedan law, the Kerala High Court ruled that Muslim father can act as the legal guardian of his minor daughter so as to alienate immovable property. The ruling was given by dismissing the appeal suit of a Muslim daughter who had sought for partition of property, ignoring the alienation effected by her father in capacity of her legal guardian.

The High Court directed the organizers of International Film Festival of India to include and exhibit the film ‘ S Durga’, directed by Sanal Kumar Sashidharan in the Indian Panorama section of the Festival. Justice K. Vinod Chandran, the learned Single Judge who considered the matter, overruled the objections raised by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and held that the CBFC certified version of the film was entitled to be screened.

The Division Bench of theHigh Court refused to stay the operation of the order of the Single Bench directing exhibition of the film “S DURGA” in IFFI. While considering the appeal filed by Union Ministry for admission in the forenoon session, the Division Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Antony Dominic and Justice Muhammed Mustaque refused to stay the operation of the Single Bench. The Division Bench flatly refused the prayer for interim stay in the open court.

Orissa High Court

 Punjab & Haryana High Court

With the CBI making important headway in the Pradyuman Thakur murder case, the Punjab and Haryana High Court granted anticipatory bail to the owners of Ryan International School while observing that “in the investigation conducted so far, there is not even a pointer of involvement of petitioners in the crime in this case”.

Uttarakhand High Court

The Uttarakhand High Court, on Monday, suggested that the Freedom of Religion Act be enacted by the State legislature, in order to put an end to sham conversions for the sole purpose of marriage.
