The Central Government has notified the appointment of Advocates Rakesh Thapliyal and Pankaj Purohit and Judicial Officer Vivek Bharti Sharma as the Judges of Uttarakhand High Court.

The Union Law Minister Mr Kiren Rijiju tweeted the development.

In April the Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud had recommended their names for appointment as Judges of the High Court of Uttarakhand, along with Advocate Subhash Upadhyay. Centre's notification is silent so far Upadhyay's elevation is concerned.

According to the resolution, Rakesh Thapliyal though having crossed the age of 55 years was still recommended keeping in view his credentials, reputation and performance.

The Collegium had further noted that officer Vivek Bharti Sharma, despite having crossed the age limit of 58½ years, is recommended for elevation considering his outstanding assessment as judicial officer and as Registrar General.
