The Tripura High Court has transferred Biswatosh Dhar, a Kamalpur Civil Judge accused of sexually harassing a rape survivor in his chambers.
The transfer was notified through a notification dated 23rd February 2024, signed by the High Court Registrar General, directing the Civil judge to report forthwith to the High Court, and said that he would be kept on 'compulsory waiting for future posting.'
Sri Biswatosh Dhar, Civil Judge (Jr. Div.)-cum-Judicial Magistrate First Class, Kamalpur, Dhalai District is hereby transferred to the High Court and is kept on compulsory waiting for future posting. Sri Dhar is directed to report to the High Court immediately, it stated.
It further directed that the charge of Dhar's office shall be carried out by Madhumita Biswas, Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate-cum-Civil Judge (Jr. Div.), Kamalpur, Dhalai District until further orders.
According to reports, a 23-year-old woman had accused the civil judge of inappropriately touching her in his chambers, when she had approached him to record her statement under Section 164 CrPC after being allegedly raped by another man.
Local reports stated that after the woman had raised her voice, her husband wrote to the secretary of the Kamalpur Bar Association flagging the occurrence.
Thereafter, a three-member fact-finding team of judges was constituted & led by Dhalai District & Sessions Judge Gautam Sarkar.
