The Rajasthan High Court on Monday directed Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev to appear for police interrogation on October 12 in connection with an FIR lodged against him over his alleged anti-Muslim remarks made at a meeting of seers in Rajasthan’s Barmer district earlier this year.
The bench of Justice Kuldeep Mathur also extended till October 16 the operation of the interim order granted in his favour in April this year putting a stay on his arrest.
The matter will be heard next on October 16.
The impugned FIR against Ramdev was lodged at the instance of a Barmer resident Pathai Khan being aggrieved with the Yoga Guru’s comments during a sant samagam in the Taratar math on February 2.
In the FIR, it has been alleged that Ramdev compared Hinduism with Islam and Christianity claiming that both religions were obsessed with conversion while Hinduism taught its followers to do good.
A video of the alleged remarks had also surfaced on social media where he was purportedly shown accusing the Muslims of committing “terrorist acts” and “abducting Hindu women”.
He has been booked under Sections 153 (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion), 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 298 (uttering, words, etc., with deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings of any person) of the Indian Penal Code.
