Man Commits Suicide With Judge's Security Officers' Gun: High Court Takes Suo Moto Cognizance, Seeks Presence Of Punjab DGP

The Punjab & Haryana High Court today has taken suo moto cognizance of an alleged incident wherein a man committed suicide by pulling out a gun from the Personal Security Officer (PSO) of a sitting judge at Golden Temple.

Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Anil Kshetarpal said, "There is definitely lapse of security and therefore, the Director General of Police, Punjab, is directed to be present in Court through video conferencing tomorrow at 10:00 a.m."

According to a newspaper report, on Sunday, 22 September, "the ASI was accompanying a judge who had come to pay obeisance at the shrine. Suddenly, the man snatched the pistol of the officer and shot himself." The person who committed suicide is yet to be identified.

The division bench said, "Suo moto cognizance of the matter was taken by this Court on the basis of news item published on 22.09.2024 in newspaper 'The Tribune' and 'Jagran' of the incident, which happened on Sunday at Golden Temple, Amritsar, Punjab, when a miscreant pulled out the firearm of PSO of sitting judge of this Court and committed suicide by shooting himself."

While directing the State counsel to seek instructions in the matter, the case is listed for September 25, for further consideration.
