The Special Investigating Agency (SIT)  constituted to probe Lawrence Bishnoi interview from jail matter, submitted before the Punjab & Haryana High Court that in an affidavit that the misconduct, negligence and dereliction of duty by the concerned officers is found.

A bench of Justice Anupinder Singh Grewal and Justice Lapita Banerji noted that, "Mr. Prabodh Kumar, Special Director General of Police, Punjab State Human Rights Commission-cum-Head of the SIT, has filed an affidavit with regard to the completion of investigation in FIR No. 1 dated 05.01.2024, registered at Police Station State Crime, Punjab SAS Nagar. It is stated in the affidavit that the police report under Section 173 Cr. P.C. (now BNSS, 2023) has been filed on 09.10.2024 in the Court of JMIC, District SAS Nagar. In the affidavit, a self-contained note has been annexed... indicating the misconduct negligence and dereliction of duty by the concerned officers."

Punjab State counsel submitted that they have received the above self-contained note and assured the Court that appropriate action has been initiated against delinquent officials.

The development came after the SIT constituted by the Punjab and Haryana High Court revealed that gangster Lawrence Bishnoi's first interview "glorifying crime and criminals" was conducted when he was in Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) premises in Punjab's Kharar and the second interview was in a Jaipur jail.

In the previous proceeding, the Court also questioned why Punjab Police officer posted at its Crime Intelligence Agency (CIA), where Lawrence Bishnoi's interview from jail was allegedly conducted, was given extension after retirement.

While listing the mater for November 28, the Court noted that Arun Pal Singh, ADGP (Prisons), submitted that several steps have been taken towards installation of V-Kavach jammers and prayed for time to file an affidavit in this regard.
