Punjab & Haryana High Court Summons Chandigarh Traffic SSP Over UT's Contradictory Stand On Sitting Judge's Threat Perception
The Punjab and Haryana High Court today summoned Chandigarh's Traffic SSP over contradictory stand taken by UT on a sitting High Court's judge threat perception.
The Court noted that the report of SSP, Traffic (Security) submitted to it by the UT administration disclosed that the threat perception had been "heightened". This, the Court found was contradictory to the stand taken by the UT in the previous hearing held on November 27.
The development comes in the suo moto case initiated by the High Court after a Judge's security breach at Golden Temple in September 2024. In the incident, a man managed to pull out the gun possessed by the Judge's Personal Security Officer. The Investigating Officer today apprised the Court that a closure report has been prepared in the matter.
In its order, Division bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sudhir Singh stated, “After hearing the parties and perusing the threat perception report SSP security traffic UT Chandigarh dated 9.1.25 which reveals that threat perception is heightened... the aforesaid finding appears to be contradictory to the statement made on 27.11.24.”
The Court has directed the SSP, Sumer Pratap Singh, to be personally present on Monday (January 13).
The High Court had earlier beefed up the security and directed to deploy 3-4 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in security of the judge.
