The Punjab and Haryana High Court has sought "strict action" against a Haryana police officer after the woman he claimed, in a report submitted in a protection plea, is dead, was found alive and present in the Court.
Justice Kirti Singh said, "In view of this false report that has been submitted to the Registry of this Court, the Superintendent of Police, Nuh at Mewat is directed to file an appropriate affidavit explaining this anxious situation and conduct enquiry and also take a strict action against this delinquent official."
The protection plea was filed by a minor girl, who had turned major during the pendency of the case. It was submitted that the girl was beaten by her parents and was forced to marry a man against her wishes. She had left her house with the help of her close relatives namely Anish and Arstoon.
Considering that the petitioner is now a major, Court said she is at liberty to go to the place of her choice. However, it found that as per the service report attached with the case file, Arstoon had expired two years ago while giving birth to a child.
Surprisingly, Arstoon was present in Court and she supplied her Aadhar Card to establish her identity, rendering the report "false".
State counsel then submitted that the service report was submitted by then ASI of Rojka Meo Police Station at Nuh.
Consequently, the Court sought strict action against the officer and directed the State counsel, "to produce the affidavit of the Superintendent of Police, Nuh at Mewat within a period of four weeks from today explaining the situation in which such a report was submitted by the concerned police official and also the action taken against the delinquent official."
