The Manipur High Court on Wednesday (December 18) directed the state government to file a report regarding action taken for providing ramps and toilets to the people with disabilities and elderly persons in public buildings of Churachandpur district.
The order was passed by the division bench comprising Chief Justice D. Krishnakumar and Justice Golmei Gaiphulshillu Kabui in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) praying for a direction to the State authorities to make public buildings situated in Churachandpur district accessible to people with disabilities and elderly persons by providing Ramps and Toilets as prescribed under Section 45(1) of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 read with Rule 15(a) of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules, 2017.
“This Court, on perusal of the prayer in the PIL, is of the view that there is urgency in the matter for providing Ramps and Toilets to the people with disability and elderly persons and therefore, the State Government is directed to file report before this Court with regard to the action taken in this behalf before the next date of hearing,” the Court directed.
The matter is listed again on January 29, 2025.
