Police Had Nothing To Do With Cancellation Of Leo Audio Launch, False Narrative Being Spread: TN Govt To Madras HC

The submissions were made before Justice G Jayachandran in response to the remarks made by the judge saying that the recent vandalism in theatre and the mayhem during AR Rahman's concert in the theatre could have been avoided if the police had given proper permission and ensured law and order.

Recently, videos of broken chairs in Rohini theatre in Koyambedu went viral after the theatre had organized a special screening of the trailer of the movie Leo. When the judge pointed out that the situation could have been avoided if necessary police protection had been given, the State Public Prosecutor informed the court that the theatre management had not sought permission from the Commissioner of Police and thus no protection could be granted.

The prosecutor also informed the court that there was a false narrative being spread in social media and that the police were willing to provide protection if the makers of the movie wanted to conduct the audio launch. With respect to the recent mishaps at the AR Rahman concert, the prosecutor informed the court that it was mainly due to the large distribution of fake tickets.

The submissions were made in a plea by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh seeking permission for a route march to celebrate the 76th year of Indian independence, the Birth Centenary of Barath Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Vijayadasami.

Opposing permission, the prosecutor informed the court that the permission was sought to be carried on a route witu mosques and churches and thus there was a possibility of a law and order problem.

Taking note of the submissions, the adjourned the case to October 11.
