The Madras High Court has made hybrid hearings through VC mode mandatory in the district judiciary of the state with effect from February 5th 2024.

In a notification issued by the Registrar General of the Madras High Court, the RG said that the mandatory facility has been notified upon approval from the Chief Justice. The notification also urged the members of the bar to use the facility in all jurisdictions and to cooperate for an effective implementation of the facility.

The High Court, Madras, upon approval of the Hon'ble The Chief Justice hereby notifies that the facility of hearing cases through Hybrid VC mode is mandated for the District Judiciary with effect from 05.02.2024. The members of the Bar and the litigants appearing as party-in-person are advised to utilize the facility of hybrid hearing of their cases to the best extent possible,” the notification reads.
In April last year, the High Court moved to a hybrid hearing as a precautionary measure to reduce the footfall in the court premise in light of a rise in COVID cases across the country. The High Court has been continuing to have hybrid hearings in both its Madras Bench and Madurai Bench since then.
