The Kerala High Court on Wednesday directed the District Police Chief, Kollam, to conduct an enquiry in the matter of alleged manipulation in the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) scorecard of a candidate.
Justice P.V. Kunhikrishnan declared that if any criminal offence is found in the matter, the Police authorities would be free to register a case and investigate the same in accordance with law, without waiting for any further order from the Court.
The candidate had filed the present writ petition averring that he had secured 468 marks out of 720. He submitted that he had obtained the scorecard showing 468 marks from the local Akshaya Centre. On being informed that another certificate reflecting only 16 marks was posted on the official website of National Testing Agency (NTA), he submitted that he had not committed any foul play in the matter.
The NTA on its part, argued that the petitioner had only obtained 16 marks in the NEET, 2022 out of 720. It was also submitted that the document produced by the petitioner was not on the record of the NTA, and that the same appeared to be forged/manipulated.
The court said that before deciding the writ petition finally, an enquiry by the Police authority would be necessary. It thus suo motu impleaded the District Police Chief, Kollam as an additional respondent in the case, and directed the said authority or an Authorised Officer, deputed by the former to conduct an enquiry and submit a report on the same before the court within four weeks.
The matter has been posted for further consideration on June 30.
Advocates N. Anand, Bijith S. Khan, Rajesh O.N. and Jimnad B. appeared on behalf of the petitioner. The respondents are represented by the Deputy Solicitor General of India S. Manu, the Government Pleader and Advocate Nirmal S.
